The idea of this volume came about as a result of the discovery of a collection of models of arched tools built during the nineteenth century (especially in the 1920s and 1930s) in Tuscany at the Agrarian Cabinet of the Technical Institute “G. Salvemini-E.F. Duca d’Aosta “. These tools, built mainly on Cosimo Ridolfi’s instructions, represent an important example of scientific study applied to agricultural activities, in order to improve the production and hence the living conditions of the tuscan population.
